State-of-the-art systems used to facilitate touch down monitoringChallenge: During a deep water cable lay operation, the Client required the cable to be monitored and positioned by an ROV deployed from the lay vessel and without the use of a second ROV survey vessel. Solution: S3 implemented a configuration of survey systems on the lay vessel that included inertial navigation systems for positioning of the ROVs at the touch down and the use of high frequency high resolution sonars that allowed the status of the cable to be monitored at the touch down whilst at the same time, ensuring the safe operation of the ROVs. This solution saved the Client the significant cost of an additional support vessel during the cable installation. |
